Caroline and Jamie will of course give us a full report at the AGM, but I thought we should pat…
The Bailiffgate Singers was formed in 2005 and named after our rehearsal venue – The Bailiffgate Museum in Alnwick. We are a mixed choir based in Alnwick singing for the sheer pleasure of making music.
We usually rehearse three programmes of work each year – spring, summer and Christmas – with two or three concerts at the end of each term. We tend to sing one, longer, classical work, and several short pieces (folk, popular, show songs, gospel, classical and more). Our concerts are lively, sociable events, interspersed with readings and poetry.
We have worked with local composers to develop and perform new music, and sometimes collaborate with other local ensembles as part of larger musical productions. The breadth of our repertoire ensures that there is always something for everyone.

Our Musical Director, Caroline Fentiman, is an accomplished and experienced musician.
She has sung in many different choirs for over 20 years, both as a chorus member and as a soloist. As a choral director, she has led community and school ensembles. As well as singing, Caroline plays the piano, clarinet and ukulele and works as an instrumental and singing tutor.
Caroline trained at Guildford School of Acting and Southbank University, London, she then toured with national theatre companies for several years before having children. She also works as a special needs teacher, teaching music to young people with social, emotional and behavioural issues. She has taken on a variety of artistic ventures in Northumberland, both musical and theatrical. With her broad interest in different musical genres, she has taken the Bailiffgate Singers to new heights.
Our Accompanist, Simon Brett, joined the choir at the very end of 2017 and made a tremendous impression within his first few months in the role. He is a very skilled and talented musician, accomplished especially on the organ, other keyboards and various free-reed instruments. He also holds various diplomas with prizes from the Royal College of Organists and Associated Board.
He soon proved to be an excellent addition to the choir and was particularly noticeable for his performance on the button accordion at our concert at the Sage in Gateshead in May 2018.
We meet every Wednesday from 7.30pm – 9.30pm at the Bailiffgate Museum in Alnwick, close to the entrance of Alnwick Castle.
We welcome new members for all sections of the choir, why don’t you join us? No audition is required.
